Healthy Easy Homemade Bread Recipe

I think there is nothing better than making your everyday bread while using an easy homemade bread recipe like the two recipes I share here. Even homemade white bread. The ingredients are clean, you know what is in it and it makes the house smell so delicious! This is my go-to bread recipe that my girls love and tastes amazing. You can’t mess it up if you try.

Easy Homemade Bread – aka Sweet Molasses Brown Bread

  • 4 tsp. active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 egg
  • 2 TBS butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 TBS molasses
  • 2 TBS unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 brown sugar
  • 2 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 2 + cups Whole Wheat Flour

To make good bread the secret is to pre-heat your oven to 200 for the rising.  That way you aren’t always wondering it is warm enough.  Once it hits 200 then shut off the oven.  Put your honey, warm water and yeast in a bowl, stir and let your yeast get frothy.  In a mixing bowl, or you mixer place the rest of the ingredients.  Give it a whirl with your hook or just good old fashioned hands.  Then add your yeast, water, honey mixture.  If you are using your mixer with the hook attachment, just let it mix until it forms a smooth ball.  If you are using your hands, get in there and get is all combined with a wooden spoon, then put on your counter and knead it good!  Get that arm workout in!

Place in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap (make sure you spray that too) and place in oven to rise.  Give it about an hour, then you will punch it down, divide into 2 loves or 1 big loaf depending on your pan.  Make sure it is greased and that you spray your plastic wrap as well.  Place back in the oven to rise again in the loaf pan.  Once they are at the size you like, gently take off the plastic wrap and close the oven.  Turn it on to 350 and in about 25-30 minutes you will have yummy, fresh and healthy bread.

You can add oats, seeds, dried fruit, nuts, etc for an additional yummy, healthy bread.

You ever have a goal in the kitchen?  You know, if you could make the perfect buttermilk biscuits, the perfect pie crust, or the perfect loaf of bread.  For me, it was all 3!  If I want to learn something new, I work at it until I get it.  And until I get it to where it tastes super yummy.  I love bread.  I mean, LOVE!  Especially with butter and with a super yummy salad.  There is something so good.  There is something so comforting of the smell of bread baking in the oven.  I love it.  I have a fool proof way to make your own homemade bread, all with ingredients that you can read!  Here is my favorite bread recipe:

Recipe:

  • 5 cups hot water
  • 1 1/4 cup coconut oil ( I have used olive oil)
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 2 1/2 tbsp. instant yeast
  • 12-13 cups of whole wheat flour (I have used half white and half wheat and whole wheat pastry flour)
  • 5 tsp. salt
  • 1 tbsp. gluten (I have made it without and it turns out fine as well)

Method

Take your water and add the honey to it.  Then add your yeast and let it get all bubbly and yummy.  While that is going on, mix all the other ingredients together.  Then add your wet and work it into a dough ball, take it out and knead, knead, knead until it is a wonderful, soft dough ball.  Put it into an oiled bowl with a towel over it and let it rise for about an hour.  I usually set my oven to 200 degrees then shut it off and put it in my oven.  Once it is risen, I take it out and divide it into 4-5 loaves and form the loaves into my loaf pans and again let them rise in the oven.  Then while they are in the oven, I will turn on the oven and bake it at 350 for about 30 minutes or so.  Let them cool in the pan before taking them out.  They are super yummy.

Some alternatives:

You can use all white flour, it makes a delicious white bread.

You can add, molasses, oats, chia seeds, hemp seeds, any nuts, raisins, cinnamon, etc.  Have fun and make all the batches different.  Super yummy, super healthy and super easy.  Have fun baking mamas! Enjoy and tell me how you did!
