Easy homemade Pink Beet Latte Recipe

Discover the beautiful beet root latte (or pink latte), an energizing hot or iced revitalizing drink with many health benefits for the body and your mind.

Summer is already here and to celebrate the arrival of the happy, beautiful sunny days and flowering trees (soon I hope !), we go totally pink. I have an obsession with naturally vibrant green, pink or blue ingredients, and especially the beet root which I like to use in the most of my unusual recipes: in cakes, in pancakes, in my granola, and even on a pizza (there are many original recipes for using your beets).

And now I will share with you a new cute beet pink latte recipe which you can easily make at home.

If I like the idea that beets are recognized for their health benefits, it is still the pink color of this hot drink tested several times in coffee shops that seduced me in the first place. My eye is always lured by organic ingredients with bright and natural colors (except the artificial dyes and additives, which I avoid on the other hand like the plague).

How I fell in love with beet

Since I realized it for the first time, I have literally fallen in love with this bold and energizing spicy drink made with this humble root vegetable. It partly resembles the other lattes I’ve made, but in a bright pink to red color(depends on how much beet you use) that will not leave anyone indifferent, everybody will like it. I had originally planned to share the recipe for Valentine’s day. I guess I’m a little late. I hope you don’t mind that:-).

That being said, I know that this beet latte will not be for everyone though, and you may be one of those who do not really like the idea of using beet in a latte recipe. I should say that this vegetable has a somewhat “earthy” flavor that some may find tasteless, and it is clear that you have to love beet juice to enjoy it. Personally, I think this latte is a great way to get to know beets and take a good use of it.

The additional spices (ginger, cinnamon, etc..) that are added in this recipe would help enhance the flavor in many aspects, while remaining a really healthy and refreshing drink suitable for daily use or just for wowing your friends and guests.

If in spite of everything it is not your cup of tea (or cup of latte in this case) and you do not even want to try it, I don’t blame you. One last attempt, however, is to incorporate raspberry powder (or fresh raspberries mixed and spiced) into the latte ingredients to mitigate that little root vegetable taste that you dislike in the first place. Then you may fall in love with beets without even realizing it, who knows !

Few words on the Incredible Benefits of beet root

Apart from its stunning colour, beet latte is also a wonderful concentrate of multiple health benefits and a surprising alternative to your daily tea or coffee.

Beets are thus very rich in betaine, a substance that acts on the liver by helping liver cells get rid of toxins. Betaine also works to improve enzyme activity to break down fats. Beyond the liver, beets have anti-inflammatory properties throughout the body and betaine also stimulates muscle growth, allowing to decrease muscle breakdown after exercise.

Last but not least, note how simple this beet latte is to prepare. Apart from the beet that is used already cooked, it is enough to mix all the ingredients together until a smooth and soft texture is obtained. Add a little extra touch of ginger or cinnamon and you have an energy drink to wish for!

Note: If for some reason you don’t want to use beets, don’t have available at home or don’t like beetroot, you can substitute the beet with hibiscus flowers or hibiscus powder. Though I really recommend to use the fresh whole hibiscus flowers as it’s always better to use the real thing i.e anything that is closest to the natural original fruit, flower, vegetable, etc… Same things in powdered form are also quite nice and are great for natural coloring and many other uses, but are one level below using the actual plat in it’s original form.

Hibiscus makes equally healthy and delicious tea with a nice dark red color. So, you can safely use it to make your pink (or reddish) latte. Just boil hibiscus flowers and make a mixture with some cream or just take the easy route and buy hibiscus flower powder.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Wrap the beet in foil in foil and bake for 30 minutes, or until the beet is well tender (this step can be done in advance).
  2. In a blender or blender robot, add all the ingredients with only 2/3 milk (240 ml) and mix until a smooth and homogeneous texture is obtained.
  3. In a saucepan, heat the beetroot juice until the first bubbling, and then pour into one or two cups.
Add the remaining 1/3 of milk to a glass and use a milk frother to make the foam appear (or mix at maximum speed in a blender for a few seconds).
  4. Gently pour the milk foam over the beetroot juice, while mixing with the spoon. Add some spices (ginger, cinnamon) and serve immediately.
